Description

Isla Canela Old Course is the original layout of the Isla Canela resort in Ayamonte (Huelva), a few minutes from the beach and right beside the tidal creeks and marshes at the mouth of the Guadiana river. It is an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Juan Catarineu, measuring 6,240 metres from the black tees. The layout is flat and very comfortable to walk, with gentle undulations shaped by the natural dunes, but the vegetation gives it character: palms, orange, olive and eucalyptus trees placed at strategic points, plus saltwater lakes fed straight from the sea and a tidal creek that has to be carried or skirted on several holes. Highlights include the par-5 2nd, surrounded by water and deep bunkers, and the 14th, the toughest hole on the course. It suits both low and mid handicappers. Facilities include a driving range with covered artificial-grass bays and a natural-grass area, a short-game area with two practice bunkers, and a clubhouse with a snack bar and restaurant whose raised terrace overlooks the croquet lawn. The resort hotel is two minutes from the course.
