What is a green fee and how much does it cost in Spain in 2026?

If you are new to golf, or if you have been playing for a while but have never ventured beyond the club where you started, chances are you have wondered at some point what that term actually means — the one that appears on every booking platform and in most conversations between golfers. Green fee. What it is, how much it costs, and how to book at the best possible price.

This is the guide that should have existed from the start.

What is a green fee, exactly?

A green fee is the price paid to play a round of golf at a course as a visiting player, without being a club member. It is, in essence, the entry ticket to the course: what you pay to use the layout, the greens, and the basic facilities for a single round.

The term comes from English: green refers to the putting greens on the course, and fee is simply the charge or price. In Spain the English term is used universally, though some contexts also refer to it as "tarifa de visitante" (visitor rate) or "precio de ronda" (round price).

A green fee typically does not include club hire, a golf buggy, or lessons with a professional. These are additional services booked and paid for separately, though many courses offer combined packages.

How much does a green fee cost in Spain in 2026?

The price of a green fee in Spain varies enormously depending on the course, the region, the season, and the day of the week. It is difficult to talk about a "standard" price because the range is very wide, but there are reasonably clear orientation bands:

Municipal and accessible public courses
Between €15 and €35 per round. These are the most affordable and tend to feature nine-hole layouts or par-3 courses designed for beginners.

Private clubs open to visiting players
Between €40 and €90 per 18-hole round. Most golf clubs in Spain welcome visitors during certain time slots, especially on weekdays. This is the range where the majority of golf in Spain is played.

Resorts and premium courses
Between €90 and €200 or more. These are the major resorts of Andalusia, the Costa del Sol, Mallorca, or the Basque Country — spectacular layouts, high-quality facilities, and experiences often designed for international golf tourism as well.

What factors affect the price of a green fee?

The day of the week. This is the single most determining factor at most courses. Weekends and public holidays are always more expensive than weekdays. The difference can be 30% to 50% at the same course. If you have flexibility, playing midweek is the smartest way to reduce cost.

The season. In regions with extreme weather — inland Spain in summer or the north in winter — prices tend to adjust with demand. Areas with year-round golf, such as Andalusia or the Canary Islands, maintain more stable pricing.

The tee time slot. Many courses apply differentiated rates depending on the time of day. First tee times in the morning or late afternoon slots (after 4pm in summer, for example) tend to be cheaper than the central windows.

The number of holes. A nine-hole round costs significantly less than 18. Some courses also offer six-hole options for shorter outings.

The category of the course. A course with a high-quality certification, spectacular views, and competition-standard greens will always command a higher rate than a more locally focused layout.

How to book a green fee at the best price

Until recently, booking a green fee meant calling the course, asking about availability and rates, and confirming by phone or email. A slow process that put off many golfers, especially younger players.

Today there is a better way.

With Teeup you can search available courses, check rates, and confirm your booking in under three minutes, directly from your phone. No calls, no waiting, instant confirmation.

And if you are a Teeup Members subscriber — available for €14.99/month — you also gain access to the network of partner courses with reciprocal conditions: preferential rates and special access that are normally reserved for the clubs' own members.

For a golfer who plays two or three rounds a month, the membership pays for itself easily. But beyond the saving, what it offers is something that cannot be priced: the freedom to play wherever you want, whenever you want, without barriers.

Green fee vs. club membership: which makes more sense?

It is a question that comes up often, especially among golfers who have moved past the beginner stage and want to play regularly.

Annual membership at a private club in Spain can range from €1,500 to over €6,000 depending on the club and location. In return, the member has unlimited access to their course, no green fee to pay, and access to reciprocal agreements at other clubs.

The open green fee with no membership is the most flexible option but also the most expensive if you play frequently.

Teeup Members is the middle ground many golfers were looking for without knowing it: none of the rigidity or cost of belonging to a single club, but with access to a network of courses and the reciprocal benefits that were previously exclusive to members.

Golf in Spain is more accessible than it appears. Understanding how the system works — what a green fee is, when to book, how to access the best rates — makes the difference between a golfer who plays as much as they can and one who plays as much as they want.

Book your next green fee in seconds with Teeup. No hidden fees, no commitment, no complications.
